CURATOR'S NOTE

IRO IRO showcases a cropped vest with 2 front pockets, made from zero-waste handwoven fabric with mitering for a sharp look. The vest features an extra weft motif of baniyaan on the back. The inner fabric is made from dead stock modal silk lining.

We collect offcuts waste from garment factories. All these offcuts have been cut into tiny scraps and tediously sewn back together to form a liner yarn. This liner yarn is then hand-woven into our fabric. This process is time-consuming and difficult but it is as beautifully unique as it is kind to the planet.
The piece may not look exactly like the image but the overall look and feel of the piece are not changed.
It has been uniquely made and designed for you.

THE DESIGNER STORY

We started with the aim to reduce and reuse waste produced by our parent company Shivam International- a company that manufactures garments and exports them. And in the process of upcycling what we receive from the company, we utilize crafts that are indigenous to India. We started with our focus on handloom weaving, specifically on rag rug weaving. We enjoy perceiving crafts that would be considered lowbrowby larger populous through the lens of quality and design. This for us is an act of rebellion against conventional luxury normsa fact that amuses us on this zero waste journey. Introducing and inculcating quality and design within a traditional craft also allows the craftspeople to fetch a fair wage and not just a minimum wage.

Women throughout history who have dared to foster independent thinking have been accused to be under the influence of the moon. 'MoonWash' celebrates these personalities from yesterday, today and tomorrow. MoonWash is a celebration of these independent thinkers, change-makers, our inspiration, who paved the way for us to exist. MoonWash is a celebration of moonwashed people. MoonWash is a celebration of you.
