The designer story:
Silāi Studio redefines indigenous textiles in contemporary silhouettes with a hint of modernity and style. Dealing in contemporary casuals, our focus is on on subtle details and fine craftsmanship. We, at Silāi love to dress the young at heart who seek something unique and subtly rooted in Indian tradition!
Silai uses artisanal fabrics sourced from the Bhuj region of Kutch in Gujarat. The block printing craft form is Ajrakh, which requires multiple steps of resist printing, dyeing, coloring, washing etc to achieve the print, all painstakingly done by hand. An artisan takes 2 to 3 days time to print and develop a 10 meter yardage of Ajrakh. Apart from the handcrafted textiles, the silhouettes are also carefully designed to enhance the beauty of these fabrics and to ensure least amount of wastage. The garments are carefully tailored in our small workshop with a superior finish, ensuring each piece fits and feels great to the wearer.
